Using the service
Terms of Use
Last updated: 25 Aug 2026
1. Purpose
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) set out the conditions for accessing and using the Hanori service, a digital knitting notebook available online, published by E.I. PHILIPPE Kevin (the “Publisher”). The financial terms of paid subscriptions are set out in the Terms of Sale.
2. Definitions
- Service: the site hanori.app and the application for creating and managing knitting projects, a yarn stash, a pattern library and a needle/hook inventory.
- User: any individual holding an account.
- User Content: any data entered or uploaded by the User (projects, notes, photos, sheets, PDF files).
- Community sheet: a pattern description sheet made visible to all Users, containing only public metadata.
- Free Plan and Premium Plan: the two service tiers described in article 5.
3. Acceptance of these Terms
Creating an account constitutes unreserved acceptance of these Terms. Any User who does not accept these Terms must refrain from using the Service.
4. User account
4.1 Creation
Registration is done by email and password, or via a Google or Apple account. The User guarantees the accuracy of the information provided. The Service is reserved for individuals aged 15 or over; below that age, consent from a holder of parental authority is required.
4.2 Security
The User is responsible for keeping their credentials confidential and for any activity carried out from their account. They must inform the Publisher without delay of any unauthorised use. Two-factor authentication is offered and recommended.
4.3 Deletion
The User may delete their account at any time from the settings. Deletion results in the erasure of their data under the conditions set out in the Privacy Policy, subject to legal retention obligations. Contributions already merged into the community base are retained in anonymised form.
5. Description and service tiers
The Free Plan allows managing up to 5 active projects, an unlimited number of yarn, pattern and needle sheets, all project modules, one photo per sheet, and full access to the community base.
The Premium Plan removes the active-project limit and adds four photos per sheet, uploading PDF files to patterns, custom tags, advanced and saved filters, and sheet archiving.
The Publisher may change the Service’s features. Any removal of a substantial Premium Plan feature is notified to the User at least thirty days in advance and entitles them to cancel under the conditions of article 12 of the Terms of Sale.
6. User obligations
The User agrees to use the Service in accordance with applicable law, and in particular not to:
- upload content that is unlawful, defamatory, hateful, infringing, or that violates a third party’s rights;
- share, publish or distribute a copyrighted pattern, or circumvent the Service’s technical restrictions to enable such sharing;
- use the Service for commercial resale, automated extraction, or to build a competing database;
- disrupt the Service’s operation, access it by means it was not designed for, or attempt to access other Users’ data;
- create multiple accounts to circumvent the Free Plan’s limits.
7. User Content
The User retains full ownership of their User Content. They grant the Publisher a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence, limited to the duration of their use of the Service, for the sole purpose of hosting, backing up, displaying and technically processing that content in order to provide the Service. No commercial, advertising or promotional use of User Content is made without the User’s express agreement.
PDF files uploaded to pattern sheets are strictly private: they are accessible only to their owner and are never shared with other Users, even when the corresponding pattern sheet is a community sheet. The User guarantees they hold the necessary rights to the files they upload.
8. Community pattern base
8.1 Principle
Any User may submit a pattern sheet to the shared base. This sheet contains only freely available metadata: pattern name, designer or brand, category, level, language, sizes, recommended yarn and needles, and a link to the source. No PDF file, no making instructions and no personal data may appear on it.
8.2 Moderation
Submissions go through community moderation: they are reviewed by experienced contributors before publication, and a duplicate check is run at submission time. Edits to an already-published sheet are subject to approval. The Publisher may at any time edit, unpublish or delete a sheet, in particular following a report.
8.3 Reports and sanctions
Any sheet may be reported as a duplicate or inappropriate; a report triggers an immediate, precautionary unpublishing, followed by a decision from the Publisher. Repeated confirmed duplicate submissions lead to a warning, then, where warranted, a temporary suspension of the ability to contribute, without affecting the User’s access to their own data.
8.4 Publisher’s status
For content uploaded by Users, the Publisher acts as a hosting provider within the meaning of article 6 of the French law of 21 June 2004. It does not exercise general prior editorial control, but promptly removes any manifestly unlawful content brought to its attention.
9. Availability and maintenance
The Publisher uses reasonable means to ensure continuous access to the Service, targeting 99.5% availability outside of planned maintenance operations, announced whenever possible. The Service is provided “as is”, with no guarantee against interruption or error.
10. Liability
The Publisher cannot be held liable for indirect damages, nor for the consequences of a use of the Service that does not comply with these Terms, of credentials lost through the User’s own fault, or of the accuracy of information in community sheets, which is self-reported.
The User is encouraged to regularly export their data from the account settings. This article does not limit the statutory guarantees owed to consumers, nor the Publisher’s liability in case of gross or wilful misconduct.
11. Suspension and termination
In the event of a serious or repeated breach of these Terms, the Publisher may, after formal notice has gone unanswered for fifteen days — except in cases of urgency or manifest unlawfulness — suspend or close the account concerned. The User retains the ability to export their data for thirty days from the notification, unless legally prohibited.
12. Personal data
The processing carried out as part of the Service, its purposes, legal bases and retention periods are detailed in the Privacy Policy. User data is private by default. Data export and account deletion are available directly from the interface.
13. Changes to these Terms
The Publisher may amend these Terms. Any substantial change is notified by email or in the interface at least thirty days before it takes effect. Continued use of the Service after that date constitutes acceptance; otherwise, the User may delete their account.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by French law. In the event of a dispute, the parties will first seek an amicable solution; the consumer may refer the matter free of charge to the mediator named in the Legal Notice. Failing agreement, the competent courts are those designated by ordinary jurisdiction rules, and the consumer may bring proceedings before the court of their place of residence.
